What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are biocompatible titanium posts that serve as artificial tooth roots. Placed directly into the jawbone, they fuse with the surrounding bone over time, creating a stable foundation for replacement teeth like crowns, bridges, or full-arch prosthetics. Unlike other restorative options, implants provide permanent support without impacting adjacent teeth.
Our Process
The process of installing a single dental implant begins with a localized dental anesthetic. This numbs the area before placement, so you won’t feel a thing!
Once the area is numbed, Dr. Ellison will create a small hole that allows for threading a small implant cylinder into place. The sterile piece is inserted into an exact location, and a smooth cover, or healing cap, protects the implant during the healing period. After this placement, a temporary or permanent crown will be placed over the implant.
Our team will help educate you on best practices during the healing period, which can last 3-6 months as the jaw bone fuses to the implant. While implants are just as strong as your natural teeth, if not stronger, it takes some time for the area to heal and for the jaw to fuse properly to the implant. In between, we will help you manage any pain you feel, although most patients experience only minimal discomfort.

When a tooth is missing, it allows the teeth around it to shift which can cause additional issues with the bite, issues with chewing and keeping the remaining teeth clean. In addition, the missing tooth or teeth can affect the ability to chew and eat which as we get older, the ability to nourish our bodies is critical to our longevity. Replacing a single missing tooth when you have plenty of other teeth and plenty of bone is very important and much more beneficial than waiting until you have multiple missing teeth or lack of bone and no longer have the option of doing a permanently placed bridge or implants that can be cemented in and not taken in and out. The only option then becomes having removable dentures or partial dentures which never have the same stability as your natural teeth.

In order to ensure patient safety and longevity of the implants, it takes two separate appointments to take the necessary x-rays and perform the procedure. If a dental clinic is saying they can do this in one day, be wary. Either they are rushing through the process, skipping steps, or the quality of your implant will be faulty.

No. Unfortunately, Medicare does not cover the cost of implants. They only cover the cheapest way to replace missing teeth which usually means removable partials which come in and out and are usually not very stable or a denture if all the teeth are missing.
