Find the Right Dentures

If you are looking for an affordable way to replace missing teeth in your mouth or solve the gaps between your teeth, then dentures may be right for you. As one of the oldest solutions in restorative dentistry, dentures can provide comfort and a better quality of life than living with missing teeth.

Whether partial or full, dentures can be removed for easy cleaning, disinfecting, or for times when you want extra comfort. The biggest benefit of dentures is the improvement in chewing and speaking for patients. Dr. Ellison can work with you to decide whether or not dentures are a suitable option for your unique dental situation.

Partial Dentures

partial dentureWhether you’ve lost one tooth or many, chewing and smiling can become more difficult because of the gaps in your smile. Partial dentures are an economical solution to replace missing teeth, fill in the spaces, improve chewing ability, and restore your confidence to smile. A partial denture will also help keep your natural teeth from shifting, lowering the risk of losing those teeth in the future.

Most partial dentures contain a thin metal framework that is designed with small metal clasps that wrap around the gum line of existing teeth. This allows for a smooth, non-bulky feel. The framework is supported by your natural teeth to provide a reliable, secure appliance that is easy to use and remove. Where teeth are missing, natural-looking replacement teeth are attached, and gum-colored acrylic is used to cover the metal framework. Remember your mouth and your needs are unique, and Dr. Ellison works with skilled technicians to create a solution that is functional, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing.

Implant-Retained Dentures

Implant-retained dentures allow for patients to retain 90% of their chewing ability vs. dentures which retain only 20% of chewing ability. What this means in practical terms is that most patients with dental implants are able to eat almost anything that can be cut with a fork.

The most important health benefit of implant-supported dentures is the stimulation they provide to the jawbone. When tooth roots are missing, the jawbone will shrink unless an alternative form of stimulation is provided. Dental implants halt bone atrophy, helping your jaw to maintain its shape and strength.

Implant-supported dentures are more comfortable than traditional dentures. First, because implants rather than the gums provide their main support, implant-denture hybrids are often more secure and comfortable than traditional dentures. As a result, patients may enjoy greater confidence

Full Dentures

Tooth decay and gum diseases are becoming more prevalent. While our team works hard in educating our patients on the best habits for healthy mouths, there are still instances when teeth simply cannot be saved at a certain point. In these cases, full dentures may be needed. Full dentures can be a good option for people who have lost all, or nearly all, of their teeth. If there are a few teeth left, it can be up to the patient whether or not these teeth are pulled to make room for dentures.

Full dentures are made of a thin gum-colored acrylic base that rests on the gum tissue. Today, dentures can look very natural because they are made from porcelain or acrylic. We know that your smile is what gives you confidence, and that is why Dr. Ellison will help you customize your dentures to look as natural and as ‘you’ as possible. We want to create the smile you have always dreamed of!

Dentures have been a successful way to replace missing teething for decades, and with the latest in dental technology, they are now even more reliable and sturdy. Dentists may also recommend that dentures be placed in conjunction with implants to make them more supportive. This will also allow the dentures to last longer and give your jaw a firm foundation.

With advances in technology, implants can also be used to support removable partial dentures, improving the fit while reducing the bulkiness of the appliance. Dentures inherently bring some challenges, especially to new wearers. Our goal is to minimize the everyday frustrations and keep you as comfortable as possible.

We look forward to discussing your options to make your mouth full again and to give you back a confident, glowing smile!

Dentures FAQs

We are happy to do a FREE CONSULTATION to determine if you are a candidate for dentures. Some patients feel that their teeth are hopeless but sometimes we are able to keep some healthy teeth to allow us to do a partial denture, which can attach to the remaining teeth. If all of the teeth are removed or have to be removed, we can make sure that you have something to smile with and chew with right away and keep your daily routine. All of this can be easily determined at your free consultation.

A denture brush is best to clean the dentures with liquid antibacterial soap to keep them shiny and new and to remove any stains. There are also cleaning tabs that can be used once a week to soak them in as well.

When your dentures start to become loose and allow food and water to get underneath the denture, this is a sign it is time to have them relined. Or if they are hard to keep in with denture adhesive or you feel they are rocking when you chew they are likely to need a reline. It is always a good idea to have them checked once a year to determine if you would benefit from a reline.
