We are right in the middle of some of the hottest weeks of summer – and we Houstonians love to take refuge in the cool of our many local pools and waterparks. Many medical conditions and devices may limit your ability to go swimming. One question we get at Susan Ellison Dentistry & Cosmetics is how Invisalign may impact your ability to participate in certain activities. Well, we are happy to report that swimming can stay on your summer to-do list.

Invisalign clear aligners are designed to be discreet, comfortable, and convenient for patients undergoing orthodontic treatment. One of the main benefits of Invisalign is the comfort of the aligners, which allow patients to go about their daily lives without even noticing them – whether you are eating, giving a speech, or even an activity like swimming.

Dr. Ellison does not recommend removing your Invisalign aligners during treatment – even when swimming. We have monitored patient progress when aligners are removed – even for just an hour or two per day – and have found that patients who keep their aligners in at all times can reach their goals faster and have better success overall. This is one of the ways we set ourselves apart and why so many of our patients can finish their Invisalign treatment in as little as 6 months!

Unlike traditional braces, which can be bulky, uncomfortable, and even dangerous during certain physical activities, Invisalign aligners are designed to be discreet and unobtrusive. In addition to swimming, Invisalign patients can continue to participate in a wide range of other activities, including sports, workouts, and outdoor activities.

Swimming is not only great exercise but can be a fun activity to do to cool off or spend time with friends and family. The best part is that you can seamlessly incorporate swimming and other water-based activities into your Invisalign treatment plan. This not only keeps you on track with your orthodontic goals, but also allows you to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle throughout the process.
